MONTREAL - Montreal’s SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., with years of experience in nuclear power plant maintenance and retrofitting, has signed a $48-million contract to install reactor containment filtered venting systems at the Cernavoda nuclear plant in Romania.

The power generation units at Cernavoda are rated among the best in Europe and this project is part of an industrywide upgrade strategy for nuclear plant safety following the Fukushima disaster in Japan,” said Patrick Lamarre, SNC-Lavalin Group executive vice-president.

“It will provide a platform to build on 45 years of work in the European nuclear market,” he added. Engineering, procurement and construction are under way and the project is due for completion late next year.
